  become a circuit overseer in your mid to late 20's.

  you would have had to qualify as an elder previously.

  this would mean the male would have had to have been an elder in his early 20's.

  any fond memories or funny stories relating to the old book study arrangement?.

  i remember a time when a new sister turned up with very smart jacket and shirt.

  yet she was wearing trousers and when questioned by everyone she said "blimey, i think geoff (her husband) is wearing my skirt!".

  I know I kinda feel nostalgia about the book studies in a way too.

  It was a real bonding thing. Just to get to know the "friends".

  Shoot a game of pool after in someones basement or ping pong

  Just too much idle talk and speculating after,,,which the Borg had to cap it off.

  So we have a 20 something C.O.

  Who is not even half the age of someone nearing retirement. And you're supposed to listen to this guy who has probably never had a real job,,applied for a mortgage, perhaps never even changed a tire.

  ""Mooching off congregations"" as someone said

  And hes telling you how to live your retirement??

  this thread currently has over 300 comments.. it shows a picture of an older man washing a window looking wistfully… then it talks all about how some may have doubts about not having planned and the situation they are in now that they are older, etc.

  it refers to others who did plan and who supposedly have ‘apparent’ financial security.

  in my opinion, the whole gist of this article is to make older witnesses feel better who did not pursue a career or plan well for retirement.. it tries to imply that those others who planned only have ‘apparent’ financial security - which is to say they don’t (?).

  Especially when you gaslighted into believing something harmful but to be advantageous to a high control group.

  Like dissing planning for retirement & working for free until you're in your 70s.

  Yes. There definitely are undertones in this article. To make it seem like those who actually planned for retirement are fodder.

  And make it seem like those who did not plan for retirement are the elite and worthy ones.

  The Borg ditched the in home book studies as a self-serving measure.

  The Borg exclaimed and preached that these groups were the "building blocks" of the congregation for decades.

  Only to be unceremoniously dumped about 15 years ago.

  Likely to evade legal ramifications.

  When it was discovered there was a terrible child sexual abuse issue.

  The bookstudy yes..

  Although,,I do remember many ''free conversations" after the study just about anything from A to Z. Even about the ''organization".

  open,,frank conversations.

  Its a no brainer why the Borg put the kibosh to the home bookstudy. Too many smart people potentially developing critical thinking skills.

  And,,,,potential legal problems with having meetings in peoples houses.

  I have some fond memories of the bookstudy group.

  Often,,,,I would say 3 out of 4 times a month the host would have coffee,,cakes & goodies after.

  Theres some nostalgia with the bookstudy group.

  under the theme "help for those who are removed from the congregation" study article 35 in august 2024 wafchtower that deals with the many changes the organization introduced recenly we specifically look into paragraphs 14 and 15 that deal with the way that we now treat disfellowshipped ones, or more accurately removed ones , since this is the new term.

  and see how they still try to micromanage their members down to the finest detail and how still apostates and more accurately active apostates are public enemy number one.
